There is nothing quite like a winter getaway. While everyone else is settling into what is usually a dreary post-New Year period, you could be jetting off into the sunset. What’s more, after the Christmas rush, travel tends to quiten down a bit so you will avoid at least some of the crowds. This is a lovely time to visit most of the Indian Subcontinent and Indochina while Australia is in the middle of summer.
Spring and autumn are stunning months in North Asia – Japan, China, Kyrgystan – where the summer itself can be hot but those outside months are perfect. Indonesia is beautifully warm and sunny and very much open for business. Perfect for honeymooners but also wonderful for a really exciting family holiday.
This is a great time to get away somewhere tropical like the Maldives or Sri Lanka. Heading there in off-season makes so much sense, great rates, far fewer visitors and often only the odd, short, refreshing, tropical downpour.
